Cops nab three for performing ‘wheelie’ stunts

SIBU, Oct 24: Three men were arrested last night for pulling wheelie stunts at Jalan Bujang Suntong.

A wheelie, or wheel stand, is a motorcycle maneuver in which the front wheel comes off the ground due to sufficient torque being applied to the rear wheel.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made in an operation code name Ops Samseng Jalanan by an integrated team comprising of traffic policemen from his department with assistance from their counterparts in Sibu, Matu-Daro and Kapit.

He added that at about 11.30pm last night at Jalan Bujang Suntong, the police team saw three men performing wheelie which “was not only endangering their life but also the life of public members.”

The suspects were two jobless men aged 18 and 23- and an 18-year-old mechanic.

Supt Chabu said the police arrested the trio and also seized their bikes under Section 61 of the Road Transport Act 1987. —DayakDaily
