KUCHING, Oct 17: Under the Tribe Legacy Sarawak campaign, 145 events have been organised in Sarawak that generated an economic impact of RM385.5 million since 2020, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim, who is Ministry for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, said the campaign also provided 30,594 jobs to Sarawakians.
“Direct delegate expenditure will inject RM209.5 million into the economy and RM23.1 million in tax revenue,” he said when officiating at the BESarawak Tribal Gathering Kuching 2022 held at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) today.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim also congratulated the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak for its collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) University Sustainability Centre in realising Sarawak’s potential as a regional leader and preferred destination for sustainable business events and tourism in the Asean region.
He pointed out that collaboration is the ministry’s long-term initiative for Sarawak’s destination sustainability programme, a contributing sub-sector of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“No doubt, this shall strengthen Sarawak’s sustainability performance,” he said.
