KUCHING, Oct 11: The Federal Ministry of Transport (MOT) will reoffer 121 unfilled spots in its free training program aimed at recruiting 300 new bus drivers in Sarawak, following the failure of some participants to attend.
Its Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook noted that he has given his commitment to the training of 300 individuals for public service vehicle (PSV) licences in Sarawak during his visit to Kuching earlier this year.
“As of now, 179 participants have successfully gone through the training process, while 121 others did not attend, likely due to misconceptions about the program’s authenticity.
“Following this, we will reoffer the 121 vacancies; no issue,” he said during a press conference after the signing ceremony of an agreement between the Federal government and Biaramas Express Sdn Bhd for Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme in Kuching, held at Raia Hotel here today.
Loke was responding to certain claims that he or the MOT has failed to deliver their promise to provide training for 300 bus drivers in Sarawak.
He further said in early April, the Ministry has requested names from bus associations for the training programme, but some associations sought additional time to submit their lists.
“So we wait,” he emphasised.
The training programme, which is borne by the MOT, offers interested participants the chance to obtain their PSV licenses for free.
Loke further encouraged those considering a career as bus drivers to take advantage of this opportunity. — DayakDaily
