KUCHING, March 15: The Aviation Division of Sarawak Transport Ministry will meet with Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to look into the lack of seats for travellers at Kuching International Airport (KIA).

This is in response to a social media post by user Tabitha Ujang which includes two photos of travellers either sitting on the low steel railings or standing while waiting to be boarded at KIA international departure hall.

“This is the condition of our international departure waiting hall: Insufficient seating, poor lighting, in general a cramped waiting area.

“It is not a very good last impression, and makes Kuching Airport look really sad,” said Tabitha in a post on the Sarawak Public Feedback social media page.

As of press time, her post has drawn 147 comments with most replies agreeing with her.

When another netizen questioned if the location may not be KIA, others confirmed it was at Gate 9 of KIA, pointing out that Gate 7 is as bad.

Many replies also agreed that the dim lighting has made the airport look ‘pathetic’ while others call it an ’embarrassment’.

There were also a number of calls for the relevant authorities to rectify the situation and upgrade facilities.

DayakDaily forwarded Tabitha’s post and one of her photos to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin who promptly acknowledged it.

“I have directed my Ministry Aviation Division to meet MAHB Kuching Airport Manager to improve the condition,” said Lee. — DayakDaily
