KUCHING, April 21: The Transport Ministry is examining mechanisms to address the expensive flight ticket prices ahead of all festive seasons, especially for Sarawak and Sabah.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (April 20), its Minister Anthony Loke said he was given a mandate by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the last Cabinet meeting to find a solution to the issue.

“The ministry is also looking for ways and initiatives to solve this problem not only for the Hari Raya celebrations, but also for other festivals such as Chinese New Year and Hari Gawai.

“In fact, almost two months ago, various plans and discussions were made, such as increasing the ticket quota since last March to overcome this problem,” he said.

On the same note, he said his ministry is also devising an initiative to help students who want to go home not only during the festive season but also during the semester break.

He also said they are currently detailing the mechanisms and identifying as well as obtaining data on students from Sabah and Sarawak who are studying in Peninsular Malaysia, and vice versa. — DayakDaily
