MIRI, Nov 14: There have been no cases reported and action taken so far against travellers passing through Miri-Brunei border following Malaysia’s digitisation of the Malaysian Vehicle Licence (e-LKM) and Malaysian Driving Licence (e-LMM) initiative.
Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said he recently received several feedbacks and queries raised by the public regarding the implementation of digital road tax and licences, especially for frequent travellers between Miri and Brunei.
Following this, he stated that the Federal Ministry of Transport (MOT) has brought up and appealed to the Brunei Transport Ministry to recognise the new system introduced in Malaysia.
Nevertheless, he stressed that the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has never restricted the public from obtaining Vehicle Driving License (LKM) stickers or Malaysian Driving License (LMM) documents during this digitalisation transition period.
In fact, the public can still obtain these documents (LKM and LMM) at nearby JPJ offices.
“JPJ Sarawak director Norizan Jili informed me that he has contacted his counterpart in Brunei on this matter, and confirmed that there have been no cases or action taken against those displaying printed copies or a screenshot version of their road tax so far.
“I have also personally called and spoken to the Consul General Brunei in Kuching, Noni Zurainah Ismi, who told me that the Ministry of Transport Brunei has received the letter on the implementation of digital road tax and driving licence from MOT and they have taken note of this,” Lee said in a statement today.
All drivers or car owners can download their e-LMM and e-LKM and road tax from the MyJPJ app, as well as capture (screenshot) it or print out their own hardcopy for use when necessary and in case of enforcement needs, especially in areas without internet connectivity.
For any inquiries, public can contact the JPJ Hotline at 03-2724 2522 or email them at infodigital@jpj.gov.my. — DayakDaily
