KUCHING, March 23: The traffic light system at the Jalan Setia Raja/Stutong roundabout has been activated today to ease traffic flow in the area.
Deputy Premier Da tuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who visited the site to witness the event said the early activation was to ease traffic flow, especially during peak hours.
“However, even with the early activation of the traffic light system, I wish to urge the public to continue to drive with extra caution as sites along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway stretch is still under construction.
“The overall project for the construction of traffic light intersection of five roundabout along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is ahead of schedule by 55 per cent with its contractual completion date scheduled on the January 2024,” said Uggah who is also Infrastructure and Port Development Minister while visiting the site, which was streamed live on social media today.
He commended the hard work and commitment of the contractor to complete the task, even during the unpredictable weather over the past two weeks.
At the same time, he took the opportunity to thank the public for their patience and adherence to road safety during the construction process.
Also present were Kuching South City Hall mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council Chairman Dato Peter Minos as well as Sarawak Public Works assistant director Meechan Jorai. — DayakDaily
