KUCHING, Dec 17: Traffic light junction turning into Sentosa Parade at Mile 7 here is now closed to facilitate smoother traffic movement along the Pan Borneo Highway.

In a video posted on his social media earlier today, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said he had communicated with Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in regards to the traffic light closure as it has caused traffic congestion along the stretch.

Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, was also on the site to oversee the closing work carried out by JKR.

Meanwhile, Michael Kong, the special assistant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, emphasised that the government should not create road access without taking into consideration the safety of road users.

“The traffic light junction to Sentosa Parade is extremely dangerous as cars are travelling at high speed on both sides of the road, especially now with the flyover and since this is part of the Pan Borneo Highway.

“Numerous accidents have happened at this portion of the Pan Borneo Highway. Over the last three days, there have been two road accidents at the exact same spot,” he said in a statement today.

As the traffic light junction clearly posed a danger to motorists, he said it should be removed immediately and people wanting to enter Sentosa Parade can always make a u-turn at 7 1/2 Mile.

Kong added that he will also take the initiative to write to JKR to seek their assistance and consideration into this matter. — DayakDaily
