Traffic issues in Sibu to be addressed as quick as possible but may take time to solve, says Tiang

SIBU, Jan14: Traffic congestion in town will be addressed as quickly as possible, says Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang.

Speaking at his Media Appreciation dinner last night, Tiang said the Nangka, Bukit Assek and Dudong assemblymen will be working together to chart out a long term solution to the issue.

“The hottest topic these few days is the traffic jam. I have been receiving numerous messages and complaints on traffic jams on social media and messaging platforms. We are looking closely at the issue and we need to tackle it as soon as possible,” he said.

Solving the issue would take time, he said, as it could not be overcome immediately.

He added that he would announce the second road upgrading project to ease the flow of traffic in due time. The first one would involve turning the first 1.5km of Jalan Oya into a dual carriageway.

The Assistant Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said their traffic jam solution would cover the whole town and not just a particular area.

Tiang hoped that the issue would be overcome in five years’ time.

“My service centre wants to look at it in five years’ time and not 10 years to make things happen. We don’t have much time as every day, we have many things to do. I will fight for as many projects as possible as Sibu is now too far behind. I want to make sure Sibu can be developed at a faster pace,” he said.

Tiang said he would be meeting every head of department such as those from agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Land and Survey Department and Drainage and Irrigation Department to get their view on important issues to focus on for the next five years. — DayakDaily
