KUCHING, Dec 21: Traffic chaos has been reported in several areas of Kuching following a disruption in electricity supply this afternoon, which caused traffic lights to malfunction across the city.
In a notice issued about half an hour ago, Sarawak Energy confirmed that power outages were also affecting Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri, with restoration efforts currently underway.
The energy provider assured the public that full restoration is expected by 3pm, and an investigation into the cause of the disruption is being conducted to prevent future occurrences.
As a result of the power failure, traffic lights in key areas of Kuching have been rendered inoperative, leading to significant traffic congestion.
Several posts shared by Sarawak Edition on social media have reported massive jams across major thoroughfares.
The areas most affected include Jalan Pending, near the Tun Salahuddin Bridge, Wisma Saberkas, and the Samarahan Expressway, where commuters are advised to exercise caution and seek alternate routes if possible.
Authorities are working to manage the situation and restore normalcy to traffic flow. — DayakDaily
