KUCHING, Feb 2: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Cultures (Motac) aims to attract 7 million inbound tourists to Malaysia this year.

In a Facebook post today, its minister, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, said Motac would collaborate with the Malaysian Inbound Chinese Association (MICA) to leverage the visa-free policy launched in December 2023.

“Muslim Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH) also targets at least one million tourist arrivals this year,” he said.

Tiong said Malaysia has witnessed a substantial surge in tourist arrivals from China and India since implementing the visa waiver policy.

He also said that in November 2023, Malaysia welcomed 124,000 visitors from China and 52,000 from India.

According to him, this number grew significantly in December, with 168,000 tourists from China and 84,000 from India, reflecting a robust month-on-month respectively.

“These statistics greatly enhance our confidence in promoting Malaysia Tourism for the remainder of the year,” he added. — DayakDaily
