KUCHING, July 19: Three cars, including a black Toyota Alphard carrying Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, were hit last night by a suspicious truck driver attempting to evade the police.
According to a Sin Chew Daily news report, the police were pursuing the suspicious truck driver at approximately 7.45pm along Jalan Professor Khoo Kay Kim near the Jaya 33 mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The Chinese national daily newspaper reported that Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid confirmed that the car in which Tiong was travelling was also one of the vehicles hit by the truck driver.
Fakhrudin explained that a police patrol team was carrying out their duties at the location when they came across a suspicious truck. They requested the driver to stop for inspection, but instead, the driver accelerated and tried to escape, leading the police to initiate a chase.
The truck driver collided with at least three vehicles while attempting to escape from the police.
According to the Petaling Jaya district police chief, the suspect is believed to be a drug addict. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the reason behind the suspect’s refusal to be checked by the police.
Additionally, it was reported that there were no injuries or casualties resulting from the multi-car collision caused by the suspect. Furthermore, the truck driver responsible for the incident has been apprehended and taken into custody.
Photographs published by the Chinese national daily showed the truck collided with the rear of a white Toyota Alphard, which then crashed into the back of the black Alphard that Tiong was travelling in. The collision also involved a Toyota SUV.
