KUCHING, May 17: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing urged greater investment in the nursing profession to safeguard the future of healthcare in Malaysia.
Speaking at the Nurses Night event in Sibu last night, Tiong emphasised the vital role nurses play not only within the healthcare system but also in driving the broader economy.
“To our policymakers and leaders gathered here tonight, I urge you to recognise the importance of investing in our nurses. They are the future of healthcare, and we must ensure their well-being and professional development.
“This involves providing adequate resources, support, and training to facilitate their professional growth. We must create an environment where nurses feel valued, empowered, and prioritised so that they can continue to deliver the exceptional care that our population deserves,” he said in his speech.
Addressing the nurses directly, Tiong encouraged them to continue speaking up for their profession.
“To our nurses, I want to emphasise that your expertise and experience are crucial to shaping the direction of healthcare.
“Continue to advocate for yourselves and your profession, as you are the ones who understand your patients’ needs best. Your voices matter, and those in positions of power must hear them,” he added.
Tiong also expressed his gratitude to nurses, praising their unwavering compassion and commitment, which leave a profound impact not only within healthcare settings but also on the lives of patients, their families, and the wider community.
“Your ability to provide optimal patient care, even in the face of limited resources, speaks volumes about your resilience, professionalism, and selfless dedication,” he said.
“It is your unwavering spirit that strengthens the very fabric of our economy. Healthy citizens contribute to increased productivity, reduced healthcare costs, and a better quality of life for all.”
