KUCHING, Aug 2: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tourism Malaysia and Vietjet Air—a Vietnamese-based low-cost carrier airline—to enhance air connectivity and promote tourism, paving the way for developing ‘sister city’ tourism products.

According to Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, Malaysia and Vietnam are more than just neighbouring countries as they are bound by deep historical and cultural ties.

“While tourist exchanges between our two nations have been on a steady rise, a clear sign of strong bilateral tourism potential, I believe there is still ample room for growth. We must step up our efforts to achieve the goal of over one million tourist arrivals annually,” he said.

He said this on his Facebook post after officiating Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), in conjunction with the Malaysia Food and Culture Promotion and the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme, in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Friday (Aug 1).

Tiong, who is also the MP for Bintulu and assemblyman for Dudong, emphasised that the collaboration should go beyond business.

“We must deepen regional cooperation and promote a more inclusive and sustainable development of culture and tourism.

“The Malaysia–Vietnam partnership is like a twin-engine, driving Southeast Asia towards becoming a central force in the future of global tourism,” he said. — DayakDaily
