Tourism events starting up again in Serian after 2-year lapse

SERIAN, Aug 12: Activities related to tourism will restart in Serian this year after a lapse of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In announcing this, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said six such activities have been planned, whereas two have been held so far.


“After a lapse of two years, we are back again to organise six tourism related activities which will be held this year.

“While we have organised two such activities, while the remaining four will be held this year,” Sagah told reporters today after chairing the Divisional Tourism Task Group (DTTG) Serian at Serian Resident office, here.

He said the coming activities are ‘Jelajah Warisan’ on Aug 26 and 27 at Kpg Tebakang Dayak, Bung Sadong climbathon challenge on Aug 28, ‘Pesta Tasik Danu Serian’ from 30 Sept to Oct 9 and SIRCC remote control at Serian lake.

On the SIRCC event, Sagah said there was international participation in the past, which included participants from Vietnam, Kemboja, Brunei Darussalam, Taiwan, Indonesia and Qatar, among others.

He also said cultural programmes and performances by local artistes have been included for Pesta Danu.

Sagah also said the two school activities which have been held, like the Serian Rafting Challenge on July 22 and Serian eco-run on June 5 have received very good response.

He thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Serian Resident and District office, Serian District Council and the local community for helping to organise such activities.

Present at the press conference were Special Envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem and Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, among others. — DayakDaily
