Jalan Tun Jugah murder: Two more suspects released on bail

KUCHING, Aug 12: In relation to the alleged murder case of an 18-year-old youth who was severely beaten during an assault that resulted in his death in Jalan Tun Jugah recently, the fifth and eleventh suspects were released on police bail today.

They were brought before Magistrate Zubaidah Shakawi today as their second remand expired.


Magistrate Zubaidah also ordered both suspects to report to the nearest police station once a month.

To date, the police arrested 12 suspects in relation to the alleged murder case. Ten suspects were released on police bail, while two more remain under remand until Aug 14.

The first suspect, aged 43, and the second suspect, aged 50 — both male — were arrested on July 29 to assist in the investigation into the death of the teenage boy who died from his injuries at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at about 1am on July 29 and were brought before the Magistrate’s Court for a remand application.

They had been remanded for nine days and were released on police bail on Aug 7 and are to report to the nearest police station once a week.

The third suspect, a 16-year-old female, and the fourth suspect, a 17-year-old male, were arrested on July 30, remanded for seven days, released on police bail on Aug 6 and are to report to the nearest police station once a week.

The fifth suspect, a 21-year-old male, was arrested by the police on July 30 and was released on police bail today (Aug 12).

The sixth suspect, a 15-year-old-male, was arrested by the police on Aug 1 and was released on police bail on Aug 8 and is to report to Kota Samarahan police station once a week.

The seventh suspect, a 17-year-old male; the eighth suspect, a 21-year-old male; and the ninth suspect, a 16-year-old female, were arrested on Aug 2 and were released on police bail on Aug 10.

The tenth and twelfth suspects, both 19-year-old males, are still under remand until Aug 14.

The eleventh suspect, a 14-year-old female, was released on police bail today (Aug 12).

The second and sixth suspects were represented by Counsel Voon Lee Shan, the seventh suspect was represented by counsel Francis Teron, and the fifth and the eleventh suspects were represented by counsel Daniel Ling.

According to a statement by Kuching District chief ACP Ashmon Bajah, there have been 12 suspects arrested to date to assist in the investigation, aged between 14 and 50.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides a death sentence upon conviction. — DayakDaily
