KUCHING, Dec 31: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will prioritise enhancing safety measures for tourism in 2025 while driving the nation’s tourism economy forward.

Its Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing vowed to do so for coming year of 2025, pointing out that the year 2024 bore witness to a series of regrettable tourism-related safety incidents, serving as a stark reminder of the urgent need for reform and improvement.

“Safe travel must be a cornerstone of the future of the tourism industry that safeguards the joy and harmony of countless families.

“As we navigate the uncertain road ahead in 2025, I hope we will walk hand in hand, supporting one another with open hearts and an inclusive spirit, welcoming guidance and suggestions from all quarters. Together, let us plan and build a brighter future for all Malaysians, step by step,” said Tiong in a statement today.

He pointed out that the hosting of ASEAN 2025 is an opportunity for Malaysia to showcase its distinctive Southeast Asian charm, diversity, harmony and cultural prosperity to the global stage.

To him, beyond hosting international delegates, this milestone event presents a platform to attract invaluable resources, vitality, and creativity, fostering high-quality growth in economic and trade relations, cultural and tourism exchanges, and international diplomacy, propelling Malaysia to new heights and broader horizons.

While looking forward to 2025, Tiong who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) bid farewell to 2024.

Describing 2024 as a year of profound growth and challenges, Tiong said Malaysians are prepared to embrace the new year of 2025 with renewed vigour and determination.

“Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Unity Government has over the past two years, steadily refined its administration, building a well-coordinated team that delivered impactful initiatives for the rakhal.
