KUCHING, Dec 15: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng has warned that the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition risks losing political relevance if it continues its cautious balancing act and fail to push through key issues such as recognising the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and fulfilling other manifesto promises.
Sng said the current government’s tendency to compromise on key principles could alienate voters, particularly non-Malay communities.
“Sabah and Sarawak both recognised UEC certification and Sarawak is going ahead with Dual Language Programmes in all government schools.
“All races are considered and other religions apart from Islam are given financial support in Sarawak through UNIFOR. That I believe will be able to comfort non-Malay in West Malaysia whilst retaining support with the Malays through Perikatan Nasional (PN),” he said, in a recent Facebook post.
“Too much balancing act will lose support for the current government because it shows them compromising on key principals,” he added.
He noted that DAP was unable to get Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s support because he believes he needs the Malay vote more than the Non-Malays, since non-Malays have no other party to lend support in West Malaysia. However, he opined otherwise.
He pointed out that in order for DAP to convince Prime Minister, they need to “act irrationally”.
“Just like Trump. There is wisdom in irrationality and it does get things done. Making too careful calculated moves, will get them no where,” he said.
Sng also believed that if support for PH-BN collapses in PRU16, like in Sabah PRN recently, with PN gaining more seats but not enough to form government, PN will likely offer the prime minister position to GPS/GRS.
“Not only have East Malaysian parties shown to be more united but they have also balanced race relations and religious issues much better than West Malaysian parties,” he said. – DayakDaily
