SIBU, April 25: Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing wants a Pemanca in Bawang Assan to be assigned to his constituency.

Speaking at the presentation of letters of appointment to 33 community leaders for Dudong today, Tiong reasoned that with the change, the said Pemanca could better serve the people in his constituency.

The letters were presented by Sibu Resident, Wong Hee Sieng.

“There are a Pemanca and a Temenggong for Bawang Assan. I want the Pemanca to change to Dudong (sic) while the Temenggong remains serving Bawang Assan,” he explained.

Of the 33 community leaders appointed today, 16 were appointed as kapitan, 7 as penghulu and 10 as tuai rumah. Five of the 16 kapitan were re-apppointed while only one penghulu was re-appointed for the position.

The 10 tuai rumah are newly appointed.

The term of appointment for all the community leaders is from Jan 1,2022 to Dec 31 2023.

Tiong urged the said leaders to serve their respective communities with full responsibility and cautioned that those who failed to perform would have their appointments revoked.

“Be on the ground often and don’t switch off your handphone even during night time, especially those serving the rural (areas) as residents will need your help when their place is flooded,” he said.

Those in rural areas, he said, needed to work harder due to the geographical challenges.

“I want you especially those in the rural area to work harder. Solve problems which affect the longhouse folk. If there are quarrels among the people, don’t take sides. If you are unable to solve their problem, look for the district officer or the Resident. Otherwise you can also lodge a police report,” he advised.

He also advised them not to use their appointments for self-benefit because the job of a community leader is to serve the people in their area.
