Tiong gives young successor strict training, not passing Bintulu to son and grandson

BINTULU, Nov 16: Incumbent Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is in the midst of training a youth as his successor.

“When the time comes, I will stand down and let the person take my place,” he said, reiterating that there would eventually come a time for him to retire.

But before that happens, Tiong said he feels obligated to make sure the named successor could serve Bintulu’s constituents and perform well.

Without revealing a name, he said though the person is from Bintulu, there is still much training that needs to be done, for the person is rather inexperienced in politics.

“So, I ask the person to understand in-depth the people’s hearts and needs. I hope in the near future, I can hand over (Bintulu) to the person.

“Because there is no ‘forever’ in politics. I will never have my son take over for me, and then my grandson to succeed my son.

“That is just not my political mindset,” he told DayakDaily in an exclusive interview at the PDP Bintulu service centre.

Tiong has been MP of Bintulu since 1999. In December 2021, he stood in Dudong during the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12) and won against seven other contestants with a majority of 5,806 votes. — DayakDaily
