MIRI, June 18: A scammer is believed to be impersonating Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew by sending messages to his friends via a cellphone number.

“I am calling all of my friends to ignore and not entertain this person,” Ting said on Friday when met at Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Piasau service centre.

He said that a police report over the incident had been lodged at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) on Friday after he was alerted to the incident.

“I’ve been seeking police assistance to investigate this unknown individual who is impersonating me,” he explained.

He added that this unknown person has been using a cellphone number, sending messages to one of his friends and claiming that his old number (handphone) was missing and that he was using a new number.

“Please ignore this person, because we don’t know his motive,” he pointed out.

Ting also has urged the person to stop impersonating him as it was a serious offence.

Ting explained that he was still using his old cell phone number. — DayakDaily
