Ting distributes 2,138 food baskets to eight villages and one residential area in Miri during MCO

MIRI, June 13: Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has distributed 2,138 food baskets for residents from eight villages and one residential area here during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The food baskets were distributed in stages, since May 8 to 11, by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Piasau branch service centre.

According to Ting, who is also SUPP Piasau chairman, the distribution covers Kampung Pasir Lutong, Kampung Pulau Melayu, Kampung Wireless, Kampung Luak, Kampung Haji Wahed, Kampung Sealine, Kampung Merikan, Kampung Lutong Baru and Merbau Estate.

The food basket consists of essential food items such as rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, canned sardines.

“We hoped that the food rations help ease the burden faced by the community affected by the MCO,” Ting opined.

End of May, the government has enforced a nationwide full lockdown for two weeks ,  until June 14.

However, the MCO has been extended until June 28.

Among those present to help Ting distributed the food baskets were Cr Aries Leong, Cr Tan Lek Jin, Cr Leslie Lau, Cr Chan Chai Pin, Residents Committee and local community leaders. — DayakDaily
