Tiang: Refrain from inter-division travel, help curb spike in infections

Michael Tiang

KUCHING, Nov 5: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Youth chief Michael Tiang urged Sarawakians to refrain from unnecessary inter-division travel to curb further spread of Covid-19.

This appeal follows Sibu residents’ request to the government to re-impose the inter-division travel restriction due to fear that green zone Sibu might be affected by the current outbreak.

“While moving around Sibu, I have received several requests from Sibu residents urging the state government to re-implement inter-division movement restrictions in view of the spike of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

“This is so that we can prevent the spread of the virus from the red zone area to other green zone areas,” he stressed in a statement today.

Understanding the concerns raised by Sibu residents, Tiang however noted that the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will decide on the matter based on statistical information and analysis.

“In the meantime, I urge my fellow Sarawakians to avoid making inter-division travel if unnecessary, especially travelling in or out of red zones to reduce the spread of the virus to the lowest possible,” he advised.

Tiang also urged the public to continue to adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOP) including frequently washing hands, social distancing, avoid public gatherings, travelling and so on.

“The battle against the virus requires everyone to play a part in making sure we can overcome it.

“I hope the pandemic situation in Kuching can quickly improve as the authorities are putting great effort in flattening the spike of the pandemic in Kuching,” he added. — DayakDaily
