KUCHING, Dec 26: Thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings have been issued in eight districts in Sarawak until 6pm today (Dec 26).

In the latest weather forecast update, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued this alert for Sri Aman, Beong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Mukah), Kapit (Song), Bintulu (Tatau), and Miri.

The warning is in effect due to the potential of severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms with a rain intensity exceeding 20mm/hour, either occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory lasting up to six hours for a single release.

Additionally, MetMalaysia has issued an alert for continuous rainfall expected to affect Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor, as the monsoon period is anticipated to persist until tomorrow (Dec 27).

This weather pattern may bring continuous heavy rain to the eastern part of Peninsula Malaysia, accompanied by strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea.

In various states, thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are forecasted for the afternoon and night.

The public is strongly urged to stay informed by checking MetMalaysia’s official website, www.met.gov.my, following its official METMalaysia social media platforms, and downloading the MyCuaca app for the latest and authentic weather information. — DayakDaily
