Three new Covid-19 cases push Alam cluster total to seven

KUCHING, August 23: Three new Covid-19 cases were detected from the Alam cluster in Bintulu today, raising the cluster’s total so far to seven cases.

The three cases were discovered through contact tracing from the earlier cases detected in the cluster, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

With this, there are currently six active clusters in Sarawak with 60 related cases, namely the engineering company cluster, Mambong cluster, Sentosa cluster, PUI Melbourne cluster, Satok market cluster and the Alam cluster.

With the three new cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak stands at 691 cases.

SDMC also disclosed there were no new recoveries or discharges from hospitals for the day, and the number of recovery cases remains at 662 or 95.8 per cent of total cases.

“A total of 10 patients are still receiving treatment in isolation wards and the number of fatality cases remains at 19 or 2.75 per cent of total Covid-19 cases,” SDMC revealed in a statement today.

Meanwhile, a total of 36 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases were recorded with four cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are 107 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) who have been checked into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined.

There is now a total of 783 individuals under quarantine in 14 hotels throughout Sarawak while 22,153 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
