MIRI, May 22: Police have arrested three men in connection with an assault on Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) President Vicky Gulin Shandom on Monday night (May 20) at the Gawai Dayak Bazaar in Permyjaya.

The city police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrests were made last night.

The three suspects, all locals, were detained at Desa Indah Bandar Baru Permyjaya by Miri Criminal Investigation personnel at 11.15pm to assist police investigations.

On Monday night, at least eight men allegedly barged into a meeting at the Gawai Dayak Bazaar in Permyjaya here, wounding Vicky who is the bazaar’s coordinator.

The 42-year-old victim,, sustained multiple cuts and bruises during the attack which happened around 8.40pm.

According to sources, the victim was kicked and punched as well as hit with wooden sticks and a liquor bottle by the attackers.

The victim was later rushed to Miri Hospital for treatment and a police report was subsequently lodged at Lutong police station.

Preliminary investigations revealed the motive for the attack was due to a certain group’s dissatisfaction over their request to stage a performance at the bazaar on May 25 being kept-in-view (KIV).

Their request was KIV due to the programme on that date being fully booked and no more slots were available. They were told that the organiser will discuss other slots and dates for their performance with them.

However, instead, the group decided to confront the bazaar’s coordinator. — DayakDaily
