KUCHING, Feb 26: Three locals and an Indonesian pleaded guilty to smuggling 17 Indonesians.

Mohd Hadi Abdul Karim Boon, Robert Emi, Joshua Sidi and Fery Alam pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.


However, High Court Judicial Commissioner(JC) Alexander Siew How Wai said that Hadi, Rober and Joshua are Malaysians and have the right to be given the opportunity to seek legal assistance from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Fery Alam will be further remanded in prison.

Therefore, JC Alexander fixed March 17 for the case to be mentioned.

They were found smuggling 17 Indonesian migrants, at the Marina Inn Hotel, at about 1 am on January 11, 2021.

They were charged under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment term not exceeding fifteen years and liable to fine or to both, upon conviction.

They were arrested by the General Operation Force (GOF) during Ops Benteng Covid-19.

They were believed to be the human trafficking syndicate known as ‘Geng Adi Tailo’ and have a network link with the Feri Yeni group in Indonesia. -DayakDaily
