Three jailed three months, fined RM500 each over cockfighting, defying MCO

KUCHING, March 31: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced three men who were charged with involvement in cockfighting during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of RM500 each in default of one-month imprisonment.

Adzha Ibrahim, Nizam Jeli and Neilvin Bonzo Michael Alden Kirap pleaded guilty to two charges.

Senior Assistant Registrar Zaiton Anuar accepted their guilty plea before meting out the sentence.

The accused were charged with involvement in cock-fighting activity, at about 3.20pm on March 28, at Kampung Gersik.

They were charged under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Ordinance 1963, which carries the maximum RM500 fine and jail time of up to three months.

They were also charged under Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (measure within the infected local areas) Regulation 2020 and punishable under Regulation 7(1) of the same Regulation, which carries a fine not exceeding RM1,000 or imprisonment term not exceeding six months, or both.

They were sentenced to imprisonment of three months under this regulation.

In an unrelated case, 18 other individuals were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today for defying the MCO. They were sentenced to imprisonment of three months each. — DayakDaily
