Three houses go up in smoke in two separate incidents

KUCHING, Jan 25: Two houses were destroyed while another one was badly damaged in two separate fire incidents here this afternoon.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, in a statement today, said they received a call on the first incident that occurred at Kampung Sudat in Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong at 3.12 pm, followed by the second one at Kampung Sejijak in Jalan Matang at 3.46 pm.

A total of 13 firefighters led by PBK II Jemiran Kemis, together with PPgB Nazari Haron from Batu Lintang fire station responded to the first incident, while Petra Jaya fire station responded to the second incident with a team of nine firefighters led by PBK II Noorudin Ismail Talab and PKPgB Azaharul Sahari.


The first incident involved a single-storey house in Kampung Sudat, which was about 80 per cent damaged in the fire. After conducting a size-up, the firefighters found that no casualties were involved as the house occupants managed to escape safely.

In the second incident that occurred in Kampung Sejijak, two double-storey houses were destroyed in the fire.

Three individuals, who were occupying the houses also managed to escape to safety during the incident.

The statement noted the cause of the fire and total losses are still being investigated. — DayakDaily
