KUCHING, June 11: A pre-dawn fire razed three two-storey houses and four vehicles at Jalan Bunga Raya in Sibu early this morning, leaving one woman with minor burn injuries.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the fire broke out at Lot 23A, Lot 23B, and Lot 26A, with Lot 23A completely destroyed, while the other two homes suffered about 50 per cent damage each. Four vehicles were also fully gutted in the incident.
The department received the emergency call at 1.53am and deployed firefighters from Sibu Sentral and Sungai Merah stations.
The fire was brought under control by 2.40am and the operation concluded at 3.50am.
The injured victim, a woman, sustained burns to her hand and received initial treatment from Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.
No fatalities were reported as all residents managed to escape safely.
A total of 18 firefighters were involved in the operation. They used hose lines from two fire engines, drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant to extinguish the flames and carry out overhaul work to prevent reignition.
The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
