Three friends fined RM1,000 or face jail for assaulting 33yo man over drug rumours

KUCHING, July 3: Three friends were fined RM1,000 each or face three months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to assaulting a 33-year-old man out of dissatisfaction.

Mohd Harith Mohamad Ally, 32, Mohd Azmi Pauzi, 34, and Shamsuri Mahli, 41, admitted to the charge before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code.

According to the charge, the trio assaulted the victim at Kampung Nombor 4, Jalan Ajibah Abol, on June 3, 2024, at about 11.15pm.

The case facts revealed that the victim was beaten by several known men, prompting him to file a police report that led to the arrest of the accused.

Police investigations found that the three men had kicked and punched the victim on various parts of his body, legs, and hands, causing injuries.

Medical reports from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) confirmed the victim’s injuries.

Witnesses at the scene saw the assault, with both the victim and witnesses positively identified the attackers during a police lineup.

The assault was reportedly triggered by the trio’s dissatisfaction, as they believed the victim had spread rumours about them using and distributing drugs in the village.

The aacused were represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee, while inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case. — DayakDaily
