SIBU, June 29: The three-day Covid-19 vaccination at Ching Ang Church vaccination centre in Bawang Assan had received overwhelming responses.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew expressed regrets for unable to attend to more who had turned up for vaccination.
“The medical team had achieved their target of 3,000 doses today which is also the last of the three-day program, they could not cater to many others who had requested to be vaccinated.
“Many still wanted to be vaccinated especially the workers from the factories, sawmills and shipyards nearby.
“There is also a large group of workers from outside Sibu who sought our help to be vaccinated. I
could only help a handful as our list was already full,” said Lau.
Lau said due to the high demand, he will try to arrange another program soon while hoping that the national vaccination program through MySejaterah could cover a lot more by then.
On today’s vaccination, he said when the centre first opened early this morning, they were immediately confronted by three major challenges including the rain, those with appointment set at 8am turned up at 6am and the shortage of staff as some failed to show up.
“Within two hours, all these however, were resolved. Thank you to the 10 volunteers who turned up on a phone call to man the counters.”
Lau said a total of 1,140 people were vaccinated today, which was more than the target of 1,100.
“We have exceeded our target of 3,000 doses for the three-day program by five doses as the team brought the extra five to cover any breakage. The KKM (Health Ministry) was on top of their jobs as all the 3,000 bottles (of vaccines) were used and none was damaged.”
Lau expressed his appreciation to the pastor of the church, the pastor’s wife and the church committee for their support and the provision of home-cooked refreshments for the last three days. — DayakDaily
