KUCHING, July 22: Three bodies, believed to be the cargo crew of MV Tung Sung, which overturned and sank near Pulau Burung near Sebuyau on Thursday, were found floating early this afternoon.
According to a spokesman for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak, the first body was discovered by a fishing boat at 1.15pm, approximately 15 nautical miles from the site of the incident.
The finding was promptly reported to KM Kota Kinabalu Maritime vessel.
“The second body was found 15 minutes later by the same fishing boat, while the third body was found at 2.30pm,” the spokesman mentioned in a news report by TVS.
Providing further details, the spokesperson informed that the first body, brought by the Sarawak Coast Guard Boat SC Terubuk, arrived at the Sebuyau jetty at 3.18pm, followed by the second and third bodies eight minutes later.
All recovered bodies have been handed over to the police for further action, although the identity of the victims has not been confirmed yet.
Last Thursday’s incident saw nine crew members feared drowned after their cargo ship overturned and capsized. The crew members of MV Tung Sung consisted of four Malaysians, four Myanmarese, and one Indonesian. — DayakDaily
