Thousands join annual Christmas parade in Kuching

KUCHING: Some 7,000 people took part in the annual Kuching Christmas Parade to usher in the festive season tonight.

Organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak and Kuching Ministers’ Fellowship, the parade saw dozens of nicely decorated floats set off from the MBKS Jubilee Ground in Jalan Padungan here and traveled across the main streets in the city centre.

Themed ‘All I want for Christmas is Jesus’ this year, the parade spread joy of Christmas as well as the spirit of peace and harmony with Christmas caroling, distributing gifts, Boys Brigade Musical Band performances, costume displays and other street entertainment.

Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese Simon Peter Poh Hoon Seng led a prayer before the start of the event.

Organising chairman William Ting emphasised that the purpose of this Christmas parade was to share the true meaning of Christmas which will bring blessing, harmony and goodwill to the people of Kuching.

The association also aims to collect RM13,000 from the parade.

More than 15 participating churches throughout Sarawak which include the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Methodist Church SCAC, Methodist Church SIAC, BEM (SIB) Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, The Salvation Army, Sarawak Baptist Church, Sarawak Blessed Church, Grace Sentral Church AOG, Sarawak Grace Assembly Church Kuching, Hope Church Kuching, Good News Fellowship, City Harvest Church, Latter Rain Church Kuching and Fellowship of Evangelical Students (FES) participated in this year’s event.— DayakDaily
