KUCHING, Nov 29: Kuching Christian Churches are mobilising more than 5,000 Christians for one of the largest Kuching City Christmas Parades, scheduled to start at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Jubilee Grounds on Dec 2, at 6pm.

Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) secretary-general, Elder Ambrose Linang, issued a call to the population of Kuching City to unite in celebrating Christmas.

“Let us not allow racial polarisation and religious extremism to destroy the fabric of our society. We encourage everyone to remember that Kuching has always been a great city, full of harmony and colorful events with people of different beliefs and cultures,” stated Ambrose during a press conference at ACS.

He applauded Kuching as a city of unity, emphasising its diversity as the strength of Sarawak.

“Let this parade be a melting pot of different faiths, cultures, languages, ethnicities, and diversity. This diversity is the strength of Sarawak, where others can see for themselves that we all live in peace and harmony,” he expressed.

The theme for this year’s Christmas parade is “A Heartwarming Christmas.”

“All parade members are encouraged to prepare Christmas gifts to be distributed to the members of the public during the parade,” he added.

On the same day, ACS Bintulu Branch, ACS Miri Branch, and ACS Mukah are organising their City Christmas Parades. Other ACS Branches will organise their events at a later date.

The participating churches include the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Methodist Church SCAC, Methodist Church SIAC, BEM (SIB) Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, The Salvation Army, Sarawak Baptist Church, Sarawak Blessed Church, member churches of SECA, including City Harvest Church, Hope Church Kuching, Gereja Grace Sentral AG, GIS Gospel Harvest Church, and Christ Baptist Church.
