JITRA: A car with a four-year-old girl still inside was stolen from a petrol station in Taman Mahsuri here after the child’s father left the vehicle’s engine running while he went to the toilet, reports The Star.
However, the girl was left unharmed in front of a mosque some 30m away where she was discovered by her father later.
Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said that the incident occurred around 7.45am today in the parking lot behind the service station where the toilet is located.
The stolen vehicle was a black Honda Civic Hybrid with a “W 201 M” number plate. Also in the car was a notebook computer and RM1,000 cash.
Supt Mohd Ismail said that the suspect was caught on tape by the petrol station’s CCTV system, and it was believed that three male suspects were involved. The car they were using was described as a blue Proton Wira bearing Kedah registration plate KAW 1618 which had been reported as stolen in Pendang early the same morning.
The theft took place when one of the suspects had gone to the toilet while their car was being refuelled.
“He looked around when he walked past the victim’s car, and then came back and drove the car away. The blue Proton Wira followed him from behind,” Supt Mohd Ismail said.
He added the suspect has been identified and has a number of previous criminal records.
The police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
The case would be investigated under Section 379A and 363 of the Penal Code.
