MIRI, July 8: Dayaks have been reminded to grab the abundance of opportunities in the agriculture sector while helping the state to become a major exporter of agriculture products by 2030.

Minister for Modernisation of Agriliculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the government would continue with its agenda to modernise farming to help the rural populace lead better lives and also reduce urban poverty, which is currently at 1.6 per cent.

Uggah said this at the ‘Dayak Chamber of Commerce Industry-Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry 2018’ celebration at Eastwood Golf and Country Club Miri on Saturday. Over 400 people, including 150 from Kota Kinabalu, were at the gathering.

Among others, he added that the state government had allocated RM68 million to improve the Rawangi Food Production Permanent Park, near Kuching, based on modern and digital agriculture concepts.

Uggah also urged DCCI to continue assisting his ministry to transform the agriculture sector.

Among those present at the event were DCCI president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, KCCI Sabah president Datuk Bonipasius Bianis, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau. — DayakDaily
