KUCHING, July 22: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has assured that the Sarawak government will continue the legacy of the late Tok Nan (former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) to fight for the State’s rights as enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Tok Nan is no longer with us but I want to assure you that the efforts to restore Sarawak’s eroded rights will continue until all that was allocated to Sarawak in the (MA63) agreement is respected and abided by.
“I would like to thank the leadership of the unity government who have recently agreed to return to the State government 52 undeveloped land lots including the historic Sarawak Post Office building,” Abang Jo said when officiating at the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Independence held at Padang Merdeka here today.
At the event, Abang Johari also witnessed the arrival of a Sarawak Merdeka Convoy led by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu who handed over the Sarawak flag to Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Volunteer Reserve chief Lt Dya Syful Mirza Alluwie for the raising of flag ceremony.
The event also saw 75 contingents marching around Padang Merdeka for Sarawak Day parade.
Amongst those present were Dewan Negara Speaker Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; and Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. — DayakDaily
