KOTA PADAWAN, Dec 14: No particular race dominates the population of Sarawak and thus no race will lord over the others.
This is the view of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who stressed that has been why, anyone who becomes chief minister of Sarawak, the person must be fair.
“We are inclusive. Everyone must be in the framework of development,” said Abang Johari when touching on Sarawak government’s vision towards 2030.
He said all races within Sarawak all play a part in the building of Sarawak and no one will be discriminated as all will be included.
“After all, Sarawak is huge and the population is only 2.8 million.
“Now the statistic shows that the Malay and the Iban are of the same number in terms of population.
“But if you are to include the Ibans and the Bidayuhs, then of course, there are more; but if you were to include Malays and the Melanaus, then the population is more or less the same.
“And then, the Chinese also the same. It means the whole population (of Sarawak) is divided into three parts and the number is the same,” said Abang Johari when officiating the 24th anniversary of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) cum the Launch of the Ring Ladies Mural today.
In such a situation, he said, all Sarawakians must work together in developing the State.
“No one can dominate but whoever is the CM (chief minister), he must be fair to all races in Sarawak,” said Abang Johari.
He concluded that that has been why the Sarawak government under the ruling coalition of Gabungan Parti Sarawak has been fair to each and every race within Sarawak. — DayakDaily
