Thanks to the Blue Bus “knocking on doors”, rural residents in Sibu get vaccinated against Covid-19

SIBU, July 19: Thanks to the mobile vaccination centre (PPV) which went to the rural areas, many rural folk here are getting themselves vaccinated against Covid-19.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Senator Robert Lau said, for instance, those in Rantau Panjang and Kemuyang had only come forward to be jabbed when the Blue Bus or mobile vaccination bus “knocked at their door.”

He added that the two low cost housing (PPR) areas in Rantau Panjang and Kemuyan were covered by his group. Quite a few residents came to be vaccinated after words got around that the Blue Bus was around.

“Surprised to see still many in outskirt areas not vaccinated and would not have been vaccinated if we do not go to them. In Kemuyang we covered two longhouses under Tamin constituency even though it’s only 10 miles from Sibu town centre,” he said.

At Rantau Panjang, he said 260 people were vaccinated on July 18. Over at Kemuyang Youth Camp another 163 were also vaccinated on the same day.

The other vaccination centre on the same day was at Sungai Sadit (Ching Ang Methodist Church) which saw 1,140 residents receiving their second dose of the vaccine.

Lau said more locals at Selalo, Tg Kunyit and Paradom showed up at the vaccination centres in an outreach programme to be inoculated.

“More than half of the 300 are foreign workers at the various sawmills and factories. Many would not be vaccinated if asked to do so via Mysejahtera,’ he opined. — DayakDaily
