KUCHING, July 6: Following the consecration of St Peter’s Church in Padungan on June 29, Rector Reverend Father Vincent Chin expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the church’s completion.
“Over the course of five years, through prayer, perseverance, and extraordinary generosity, our community raised an astounding RM35 million and RM3 million from the Sarawak government through UNIFOR (Unit for Other Religions) to build this iconic house of worship.
“This monumental undertaking was filled with challenges, but our collective faith moved mountains. From humble pledges to major gifts, from fundraising efforts to tireless volunteer work, each contribution has built not only a church of bricks and stone but a spiritual home anchored in hope, love, and unity.
“St Peter’s now stands tall in the heart of Padungan, not just as an architectural landmark, but as a living testament to what a unified faith community can achieve together. Thank you for believing in this mission and for leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come. May our faith ever continue to thrive here at our new church,” he said.
On June 28, the Sarawak government contributed a final RM1 million to the St Peter’s Church building fund, successfully closing the remaining shortfall and bringing the total raised to complete the RM38 million project.
Meanwhile, with the St Peter’s Church building fund now closed, the public is once again being invited to contribute—this time to support the church’s maintenance fund.
According to a notice, all incoming pledged and future donations will now be directed toward the St Peter’s Maintenance Fund.
“As St Peter’s Church now turns the page to a new chapter, we humbly appeal once more for your continued support, this time, to sustain what we have built together.
“A church of this magnitude and meaning requires ongoing care. From essential maintenance and daily upkeep to ensure the church’s continued serviceability, our ongoing pledges and acts of service are vital.
“Let us not only preserve the beauty of this sacred place but keep its spirit burning bright. Just as we raised it as one community, let us now nurture it as one family in Christ. The work is not over—it has only begun.”
Donations can be made to the St Peter’s Church Maintenance Account through Affin Bank, using account number 100410072803. — DayakDaily
