KUCHING, March 16: The tender for the construction of a haemodialysis centre in Spaoh is set to be called next month, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

Uggah expressed hope that once a contractor is appointed, the project can be completed within eight months.

The centre is one of three planned under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), with the others to be built in Kabong and Beladin.

Each facility will cost RM5 million and will significantly ease the burden on haemodialysis patients currently relying on facilities in Sri Aman, Betong, and Debak.

“The centre in Spaoh will be built at the Spaoh Health Clinic, allowing patients to receive treatment closer to home,” Uggah was quoted saying at a cookery course for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Ulu Paku women at Rh. Mendit Unsu in Penom today.

At the event, Uggah presented RM169,300 in grants to a school and six organisations.

Meanwhile, Uggah expressed confidence that two major road upgrading projects launched yesterday (March 15) will be completed as scheduled.

The RM16 million Selangking/Ng Sela/Tanjung Paoh road and the RM20 million Spaoh spur road are currently in progress.

“I see that the contractors have brought in several brand-new heavy machines. I hope they remain on-site until the projects are fully completed,” he said.

Uggah also clarified that the Bebuling Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) will be operated by Hornbill Skyways, not AirBorneo as previously reported.

The RM248 million STOLport is expected to be completed by November this year, further enhancing connectivity for Spaoh and surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
