KUCHING, Jan 5: Major remedial works will be carried out to rectify the dilapidated sections of roads at Kampung Sungai Tapang, says Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.

He said the remedial works, which include removing and replacing existing pavement followed by laying geo-textile, aggregates and premix, are expected to be completed before the first day of Chinese New Year (Jan 22).

The contractor has agreed to the work schedule at a meeting chaired by Yap and attended by representatives from Public Works Department (JKR) Kuching and Cahya Mata Sarawak road maintenance team.

Yap explained that the dilapidated village road sections are being temporarily used for the construction of an access road at the southern side of the Kuching International Airport (KIA), which is part of a RM112.9 million project approved by the Federal government for his constituency.

The scope of works includes the construction of a four-lane two-way road from Stutong T-junction to Stampin T-junction (1km); a two-lane two-way road from Stampin T-junction to Bukit Berangan T-junction (5.2km); a two-lane two-way road from Stampin T-junction to Sungai Tapang T-junction (1.7km); and construction of Stampin T-junction and road connecting Sungai Tapang T-junction.

“Within the scope of works also include the construction of three RC bridges with two-lane two-way road crossing Sungai Kuap, Sungai Stampin and Sungai Sangkoh, and one underpass for crossing the southern part of KIA.

“For the information of the public, this project is 53 days ahead of schedule,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Yap also assured that he and his service centre are ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems in Kota Sentosa.
