KUCHING, April 17: State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian hinted that the closure of schools temporarily in Covid-19 red zones will be among the issues to be discussed by the committee.

In a Facebook post, Dr Sim said data of Covid-19 in schools will be compiled and the committee will discuss the temporary closing of schools as circuit breakers in red zones.

He added the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of any other business sector with high risk of coronavirus will also be reviewed.

“To review the other public health measures again (while scaling up vaccination programs), data of Covid-19 in schools will be compiled and will discuss the temporary closing of schools as circuit breakers in the red zone.

“Any other business sector with high risk of Covid-19 will be reviewed,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Local Government and Housing, added that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will also be chairing an enforcement meeting on Covid-19 SOPs.

He believed stricter SOPs can be expected following the enforcement meeting.

In the meantime, Dr Sim said the record number of 960 Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak yesterday was a reflection of community transmission in the last 14 days.

He noted that although 896 cases out of the 960 cases were already undergoing quarantine, there were 64 cases identified from screening at health clinics.

He believed that the 64 cases identified from the community will continue to cause new clusters of Covid-19 and spread to others in the community.

Thus, Dr Sim reminded the people to follow the SOPs and practice the new norms. — DayakDaily
