KUCHING, May 23: Telecommunications services in Meradong are worsening year after year, most likely due to telecommunication companies (telcos) failing to maintain service towers, according to Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.

When debating the Sarawak Governor’s speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today, he moted that people are upset because they used to have service lines in their villages but no longer do.

Additionally, he said that some new telco towers have been completed for some time but lack the necessary fittings to provide teleco lines.

“I am glad to see that our Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications and his colleagues are taking proactive steps to try to overcome this pressing issue, including getting all the telcos to come together and trying to come up with some concrete measures to address this issue.

“The Sarawak government, led by our Sarawak Premier, has given priority to digital economy development and telecommunications is the vital link to achieve that.

“Therefore, it is our wish that the basic amenities in the form of telecommunication can be enjoyed by all throughout Sarawak in the very near future,” Ding added. — DayakDaily
