KUCHING, March 7: A 19-year-old youth was today ordered to be sent to Henry Gurney School for three years or until he is 21-years-old, whichever comes first, for committing armed gang robbery.

Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan meted out the sentence after a Welfare Department Officer tendered the accused’s social report to the court.

The teenager was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code to be read together with Section 397 of the same Code, which carries an imprisonment term of no more than 20 years plus whipping upon conviction.

He was accused of committing armed gang robbery with another person still at large at a mini-mart in Green Road on Jan 19 this year at about 10pm with a wooden stick.

According to the brief facts of the case, the 30-year-old complainant said he was robbed by two individuals when he wanted to close his mini-mart. The complainant lost RM7,000 cash, 2 handphones, 3 bank cards and his MyKad to the robbers.
