KUCHING, Nov 6: A 19-year-old youth has been placed on a two-year good behaviour bond by the Magistrates’ Court here today for obstructing police duties by ramming into a patrol vehicle and fleeing during an inspection attempt along Jalan Kuching-Serian late last month.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan issued the order after reviewing a social report prepared by the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
The teenager pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing public servants—three police officers—by crashing his Perodua Viva into their Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The incident occurred around 10.30pm on October 28.
According to the case facts, a police corporal and two colleagues had stopped to inspect a suspicious vehicle parked by the roadside. However, the driver suddenly reversed his car, hitting the rear left door of the police vehicle before speeding away.
A chase ensued and continued until Kampung Melayu in Kota Samarahan, where the suspect managed to evade capture.
He was later arrested by a police team from Batu Kawa the following evening, around 7pm. His vehicle was also seized as evidence.
Investigations revealed that the accused had intentionally obstructed the officers from performing their duty by fleeing and damaging the police vehicle.
Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while lawyer Louis Jaraw represented the accused. – DayakDaily
