KUCHING, Sept 20: Sarawak has increased its special teacher recruitment intake for 2024 to 2,180 positions, up from 1,140 previously.

According to a TVS news report, the boost of 1,040 positions follows a meeting between the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) and the Education Services Commission (SPP) yesterday.

“Last year, we targeted 1,140 positions. However, following discussions with the SPP yesterday, they have approved the recruitment of 2,180 new teachers for this year’s special intake,” said MEITD minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

He made the remarks during a press conference at the Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCAT Fair) 2024 held at Hikmah Exchange Centre (HEEC) here today.

The Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE), in collaboration with SPP, has committed to addressing the ongoing teacher shortage in Sarawak by allocating additional resources under the special recruitment programme.

Successful candidates will receive two-year contracts and are required to undertake self-funded diploma programmes at the Malaysian Teacher Education Institutes (IPGM) through the Holiday Course Programme (KDC).

Upon completion, they may be offered permanent teaching positions, subject to final review by the SPP. — DayakDaily
