Teacher drives home new pickup truck worth RM136,000 after winning ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama MAGGI®’

KUCHING,August 6: School teacher Wan Abdullah Wan Abdul Hamid, 45, is the grand prize winner in the fifth edition ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama MAGGI®’ here.

According to a press statement, he beat two other finalists in the grand finale to take home the Limited Edition Isuzu D-Max X-Series pickup truck worth RM136,000.

This year’s finale on August 3 at Plaza Merdeka was celebrated with a line-up of activities, entertainment and cooking demos before the prize presentation.


The annual contest has been held since 2015 and was organised in conjunction with Gawai Dayak in line with MAGGI®’s objective to engage and reward individuals and families for their continuous support over the years.

The Grand Finale was graced by Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh who commended the organisers for holding the event in conjunction with the festive cultural holiday and looked forward to more MAGGI® products and events to feature Sarawak’s unique cultural and gastronomic heritage.

It was revealed that the contest, which was launched on May 1, racked up a substantial number of submissions with more than 132,000 entries from Sarawak, which is a 13 per cent increment from 2018.

The finale saw the three finalists go head-to-head in a series of challenges in their bid to win the Grand Prize ISUZU D-MAX: the MAGGI® Shopper Challenge, MAGGI® 2 Cara Cook-Off Challenge and MAGGI® Wire Buzz Challenge.

Wan Abdullah who teaches at Sekolah Kampung Senari said he was very grateful for the chance to win the prize and expressed his gratitude to MAGGI® as well as his family and friends who came to support him.

“When the ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama MAGGI®’ competition started this year, I submitted quite a lot of entries, I lost count. I am so happy that all my effort was worth it! Thank You MAGGI®!” he said.

First and second runner-up spots went to Saging Giri, 49, and Zulmadia Kilok, 39, who walked away with RM5,000 and RM3,000 cash prizes respectively.

Lucky contest participants also got the chance to win kitchen appliances worth more than RM13,500 as weekly and petrol cards worth RM100 for every 1,000th qualified entry throughout the contest period.

A total of 12 roadshows were held throughout Sarawak, namely in Kuching, Sibu and Miri, allowing participants the chance to take part in fun games that MAGGI® had organised for families. MAGGI® reached out to over 13,000 Sarawakians throughout its two month-long roadshow.

The grand finale also saw MAGGI® Corporate Executive Chef Abdul Muluk Rambli delight visitors with his easy-to-follow recipes for local culinary favourites.

Visitors also got to put their spicy food tolerance to the test in the MAGGI® Pedas Giler Challenge, a mini speed-eating contest which challenged participants to finish their MAGGI® Pedas Giler Mi Goreng bowls in Tom Yummz and Ayam Bakar flavours.
