KUCHING, June 11: Taxi drivers, school bus, and licensed van operators who have yet to receive financial assistance from the government are required to register online themselves at the Sarawak’s Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board’s (CVLB) website before June 18.

Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a statement yesterday said they could also register for their eligibility at the Kuching, Sibu and Miri CVLB offices.

“In Sarawak, the State Government is aware and understands the financial predicament of the low income group who are struggling to continue their daily activities amid heightening uncertainty and challenging environment under the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The federal government through the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package had approved a one-off RM600 financial assistance for all taxi drivers who are registered with the Sarawak CVLB in the State.

“In Sarawak, a list of 929 names had been submitted by the Sarawak CVLB to the Ministry of Finance for the disbursement of this one off financial assistance to ease the hardship faced by taxi drivers.

“There may be some taxi drivers in Sarawak who may not have registered for this federal funded stimulus package and therefore, they are advised to register online at CVLB Sarawak website or avail themselves at Kuching, Sibu and Miri CVLB offices to register for their eligibility,” he said in a statement.

Lee noted that the Sarawak government through Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) has also allocated a one-off financial assistance for the transportation sector.

Those include RM500 one off to water taxi operators registered with the Sarawak Rivers Baord (SRB), RM600 one off to taxi drivers, RM600 one off to school bus or van operators and RM600 one-off to licensed van drivers

To date, Lee disclosed that the payment has been made to 929 eligible taxi drivers in Sarawak.

Lee added the Sarawak Transport Ministry has also received 193 online applications from school bus or van operators and 14 online applications from licensed van operators.

Thus, Lee revealed that Sarawak Transport Ministry is currently collaborating with the Sarawak CVLB to update the list of school bus drivers and licensed van operators who are registered with the Sarawak CVLB.

Lee said all eligible recipients are advised to apply for the financial aid at Ministry of Transport Sarawak’s website https://mot.sarawak.gov.my/

Other than that, Lee urges them to go to the nearest Residents Offices to get the assistance to fill the online application form (Google Form) through the Ministry of Transport, Sarawak website at (https://mot.sarawak.gov.my/).

For school bus and licensed van operators, Lee advised them to apply and register online through the ministry’s website https://mot.sarawak.gov.my/ on or before June 18. —DayakDaily
